Nutritional Myths

Myth #1: Give up your favorite foods if you want to lose weight

You do not need to give up any foods in order to lose weight. Moderation is key when it comes to your health, depriving yourself is never good. The key to weight loss and moderation is to focus mostly on your healthy habits, but if you want to have the occasional pizza and pasta that is okay! Having your favorite high calorie foods sometimes can help you maintain the healthy diet plan you follow by not depriving yourself and allowing you to give into those cravings so you do not completely give up on your goals.

Myth #2: Gluten is bad for your health

Gluten is only bad for your health if you have Celiac Disease or a Gluten Intolerance, gluten does not make you gain weight. Leaving gluten out of your diet if you are not intolerant or have Celiac just limits the foods you are allowing yourself to eat, gluten is found in wheat, rye, and barley. Whole wheat products are great for your health as they contain B Vitamin, barley is good for digestion, rye is a good source of Vitamin E, and they are all great sources of fiber.

Myth #3: Cut out snacks to lose weight

If you find yourself hungry in the middle of the day with no plans for a meal anytime soon it is okay to have yourself a snack. If you are a gym goer or do any sort of exercises it is recommended to have a snack after in order to replenish your electrolytes and glucose, this does not mean you have to work out to partake in a little snack. Rather than skipping your snack, you can choose a healthy snack option. Recommended snacks are a bowl of fruit, Greek yogurt with berries, trail mix, nuts, and veggies dipped in hummus. Personally, my favorite snack is the organic seaweed from Trader Joes!

Myth #4: Food is earned

Food is something the body needs to fuel itself everyday, you do not earn a meal from activity throughout your day. You deserve food because you are a human being, food provides you with nutrients your body needs to keep you living a healthy life. Not eating can cause your body to become deficient of many essential vitamins and minerals which can then cause harm to your body and health.

If you need help combating these myths or others, I'd love to be of assistance! The world of nutrition gets more confusing everyday and there is no one-size-fits-all diet or way of eating. I'd love to help you navigate this journey. You're not alone.

I'm here for you and I believe in you!
